Aiming for Slots
Cantor Gaming has chosen a tough time to move out of the online casino market
and into land gambling. With the current state of the economy, land gambling
venues are reporting some very serious declines in profit and the numbers of
gamblers heading to the casinos. The online gambling industry on the other hand
has scarcely felt the full effects of the global economic crisis – many European
internet gambling companies report continued profits from the internet gambling
sector.
Cantor Gaming, a technology company affiliated with a New York financial
company, shut down online casino operations and is looking to enter the Nevada
slot machine industry apparently. Cantor Gaming was fast developing a name for
itself in the US online casino gambling market – the company was not violating
the UIGEA but did develop games that could be used by the land casinos to better
appeal to the changing wants and needs of internet gamblers.
The latest news out of Cantor though indicates that the company has applied to
the Nevada Gaming Commission for a license to operate a small slots business in
the state. The move into the Nevada slots market comes as a direct result of the
company’s decision to move away from online casinos and instead seek out land
gambling partnerships and acquisitions. The acquisition of a holding company
owned by Mickey Wichinsky prompted the need of a land slots license in the
state.
Cantor’s land casino interests in the state of Nevada have really expanded over
the past year and Cantor feels as though the land gambling industry in the US,
even with the current recession is a better long-term bet for longevity and very
pointed market development. |
