They're Getting Younger
The land and online casino gambling industry is welcoming a new generation of
top poker players into the fold – and it’s not because the old-timers are
leaving! Poker is one of the top forms of gambling in the world – it has even
caught on in Asia where it appeals to the Asian sense of mathematics. And in the
past decade poker has shifted its face yet again with the advent of online
casinos – now internet poker is a huge pastime that has allowed the game to
easily spread to the global industry. With huge numbers of talented poker
players heading online to learn the game and practice, it’s no wonder that the
age of professional players is getting younger and younger.
Just last week a 22 year-old Danish player took home the top honors at the 2008
World Series of Poker event and he earned himself the title of youngest land and
online casino poker gambler to win the Final Table event of a WSOP. Then you
hear about the 22-year-old UK poker pro from Kent taking home some top prizes at
Ladbrokes online poker tourneys and it seems that the industry is just getting
younger by the day. There was a time (before the online casinos and even before
the prevalence of poker in the global market) when poker was seemingly reserved
for older men with cigars and a dark room.
That image though has changed in the intervening years and poker professionals
are emerging from the land and online casino gambling industry in record numbers
and they are just getting younger and younger. They are truly giving the older
generation of poker players a run for their money. |
