Why Won't They Work?
The UIGEA simply will not work with the currently drafted online casino gambling
regulations if you ask just about anyone outside of the Bush Administration.
Representatives from the US banking industry and financial services sectors
publicly stated that the regulations as they were in their initial draft would
cause severe and undue burdens on the banking industry. Those representing the
interests of the online casinos and poker gambling sites protest that the
drafted regulations violate their rights and unfairly exclude these companies
from the US horserace betting industry, fantasy sports leagues, and other areas
that have specific carve-outs in place.
There has been overwhelming objection to the UIGEA and the method in which the
ban attempts to block offshore online casinos from the US market. Some of those
protesting that the UIGEA is hugely flawed and needs to be revised are also
actually both Republicans, and supporters of a ban on internet gambling…just not
this ban. The UIGEA has some serious issues at a fundamental level – it doesn’t
even define the phrase “illegal internet gambling” and instead leaves the
defining of that term to the financial services sector to determine which online
casinos ought to be blocked from the US market.
There has been a renewed push in the government right now to finalize the UIGEA
regulations before the Democratic Party takes control over the government. US
gamblers and citizens looking to stop the controversial UIGEA regulations from a
hasty rewrite and implementation should consider contacting the US Federal
reserve to voice complaints and express concern. |
