Turning Public Opinion About Online Casinos
The UIGEA has made headlines for two years now about all sorts of issues and
problems that the banks and gambling proponents have highlighted but there has
been one glaring and obvious omission from the arguments – and one that could
likely sway the tide of public opinion in the favor of the online casinos. The
UIGEA does not address problem gambling nearly at all. With all of the talk
about the faults of the UIGEA the banking industry and the online casinos have
opined that the flawed regulations would topple the financial services sector
and cause major problems. But through all of this no one has mentioned that the
UGIEA merely blocks online gambling without noting how the government plans to
cope with issue of addictive and problem in the US.
Keith Whyte is the Executive Director for the National Council on Problem Gaming
and he is one of the first to bring up this highly pertinent subject. Whyte
elaborates on the problems facing the US in terms of cutting off online casino
gamblers without actually addressing the root cause – he finds a whole lot of
fault in this logic. Whyte opines that if proponents and the online casinos
themselves were able to point out this glaring oversight in the UIGEA, and then
point out how the companies and organizations could do a better job of actually
protecting gamblers, the gambling industry might actually win over a few
supporters in the long run.
The implementation of the UGIEA is costing the government millions and some of
the hard hitting questions not being asked by anyone is why some of that money
is not going to help those land and online casino gamblers addicted to gambling. |
