Taking Some Action
Online casino gamblers all over the US are encouraged to take up the cause this
week and phone their government about the pending implementation of the flawed
UIGEA regulations. The Poker Players Alliance is one of the most politically
active pro-internet poker groups in the US and the Alliance has made headline s
in the past two years over the UIGEA. The latest call to action from the PPA
comes in reaction to recent efforts by members of the Bush Administration to
push the UIGEA through into fruition despite the fact that the regulations are
still largely flawed, there is no telling if they will actually have the desired
effect on the offshore online casinos, and they regulations (in their present
drafted form) have the ability to further topple the US financial system.
The whole problem came about in earnest when president-elect Barack Obama won
the US election. Now all of the Republicans who are in office are worried that
Democratic control over all of the branches will negate the impact of the UIGEA.
And honestly, there is room to be concerned for those who are anti online casino
gambling. Although Obama’s platform has not specifically weighed in on the
subject, there is every indication that the new government change could also
herald the welcome change that the online casinos have been awaiting.
All of that though could hang on the ledge if the US Federal Reserve and members
of the Bush Administration push the new regulations through prior to the
transition to a Democrat controlled government. The PPA outlines steps that
supporters of the online casino and internet poker industry can take to both
call and write letters to their government in protest. |
