Shame on Paddy Power
Online casinos have been accused of a lot of things over the years and while
some of them are true, the internet gambling industry is also saddled with a
largely poor reputation in a number of areas – from protections for minors and
problem gamblers to the actual cash back on slots games in the such. GambleCraft
will defend the online casino gambling sites from a lot of the unjust
accusations, but Paddy Power’s recent decision was distasteful to the extreme
and there is simply no way to justify why the company chose to act in such a
manner.
The event in question relates to Paddy Power’s decision to allow punters to
place bets on whether Barack Obama will be assassinated during his first term in
office. What may be even more shocking than the fact that this Irish online
casino betting site accepting the bets, is that the site didn’t see the folly in
the betting until enough of the media and US politicians spoke out Paddy Power.
Since the media outcry and a very stern chastising from an official at the US
Embassy, Paddy Power took down the bet and will no longer offer this bet to land
and online casino gamblers. What’s interesting is that Paddy Power is not the
only company that was asked by punters to allow this line of betting – but Paddy
Power is the only online bookmaker to deem the bet appropriate and thus allow
betting.
A representative from Will Hill noted that the online bookmaker similarly had
online punters requesting such a bet, but the company choose to err on the side
of good taste and thus not endorse the death of any individual, let alone a
politician, and the one soon to hold the top spot in the US at that! Really,
what was Paddy Power thinking?! |
