Online Casino Debate Gets Serious
With one US president on the way out the door (and not a second too soon), some
Republican politicians are seeing the next two months as a bit of a crunch-time.
There has been a whole lot of debate and protests from the online casino
gambling industry as several politicians attempt to pass through the government
a set of regulations to accompany the highly controversial UIGEA. The UIGEA has
been hotly debated over the past two years and several prominent Democrats,
namely Congressman Barney Frank, have spent serious time and efforts attempting
to stop the implementation of the UGIEA either through repeal or neutralization.
But Republicans in the Bush Administration are dead set against the idea of
online casinos running rampant and are now attempting to push through some very
controversial midnight legislation concerning the UIGEA.
It’s actually not a bit surprising that the UGIEA supporters are looking to pass
through accompanying regulations in an altogether hasty manner – that is after
all how the UGIEA came into effect, as an 11th hour addition to a must-pass
bill. But the online casino gambling industry is now in full protest and there
is little chance that the Republicans will have the chance to pass through the
UIGEA enforcement regulations without notice – the industry is on full alert
basically.
The real problem with implementing the regulations at this stage of the game
comes down to the fact that the regulations are still seriously flawed as they
were last drafted and professionals from dozens of industry spoke out against
the implementation of the regulations. |
