It Seems to Have Worked
There has been a lot of talk and hullabaloo about the fact that the Final Table
event of the World Series of Poker took place nearly three months after the Main
Event. This is the first year that the Final Table was held off for so long and
the theory in doing so was that it would cull more interest for the Final Table
event among the land and online casino poker gamblers all over the world. Well,
the numbers are in and ESPN has released the ratings for the show – they
indicate that the Final Table event garnered more interest than ever before and
had an unprecedented number of viewers (land and online casino poker gambling
enthusiasts no doubt) tuning into the broadcast.
The WSOP is the largest land poker tournament of its kind in the poker industry
and remains one of the most prestigious events. And though there is now a WSOP
Europe event that is similarly well-respected, the Las Vegas WSOP is still by
far the larger of the events. The event attracts the attention of the
international online casinos and poker rooms while similarly enticing land poker
players to tune into the event. This year the ratings increased by a whopping 46
percent over the previous year. The specific’s indicate that roughly 2.36
million viewers tuned into ESPN for the two hour Final Table event.
The event was really quite exciting and some interesting reversals of fortunes
kept the viewers glued to their screens. With online casino poker gambling more
popular than ever before, the Final Table participants have been able to use the
last three months to hone their skills before facing off. Many enthusiasts
actually traveled to the Rio for the actual Final Table event, but for the rest
of the world, the footage was edited down to two hours, complete with
commentary, aired on Tuesday, and proved to be a big hit with the land and
online poker viewers. |
