Online Casinos Never Relent
You know what’s really interesting about the current Kentucky situation? The
courts, the government, and even many involved in the case seem to think that
this new case will have any real long-term effect on the availability of online
casino gambling for US residents (and this includes Kentucky gamblers). Last
month’s landmark case made headlines and Microgaming was even one of the first
internet gambling related companies to respond to Judge Wingate’s ruling that
online casinos have to geoblock Kentucky gamblers. But at the same time, new Web
sites are entering the market every day and those rogue sites out there are more
than willing to face the ire of the US government and tap into the lucrative US
market.
A new site for US online casino gamblers, VegasSky indicates just how futile
this entire situation may become. Just as one gambling site exits the US and
Kentucky gambling markets another is already geared up and ready to take its
place. The Kentucky government, and indeed any government looking to tackle the
online casinos, is facing a very long and uphill battle. And frankly, the state
governments are facing a battle that will simply not be won at the state level.
The online casino gambling industry can really only be controlled at a federal
level – and so far the US government’s attempts to curb this market have been
largely uninspiring. The UIGEA is completely flawed and has little actually
teeth to force the internet casinos out of the US market. New attempts may prove
more effective – but with the Democrats about to take control of the US
government, the internet gambling issue is mostly a lost cause. |
