Questioning Addiction at Online Casinos
Still in its infancy stages and under scrutiny around the world, the online
casino gambling industry has faced some tough obstacles over the past decade;
and one of the biggest obstacles yet is still pending. As online casinos spread
all over the world there is still actually a huge amount of opposition to this
pastime. Critics point out that internet gambling has the potential to be much
more addictive than land gambling in the long run and can have a much rougher
impact of addicts because of how easy it is to use credit cards and money you
don’t have to fuel a gambling habit.
But this is all just conjecture at this point, there is actually no hard
evidence or even correlated evidence to suggest that the online casino gambling
industry is any more addictive than land gambling. An academic from Switzerland
recently opined that gamblers at the online casinos are pathological gamblers
have a higher chance of being or becoming a pathological gambler.
But on the flip side, the online casinos and those in the industry are wondering
just where the research is to back up these claims. Yasser Khazaal is the
academic studying the impact of land versus online gambling and his research and
studies have not yet been published. This means that the other side of industry,
internet gambling proponents have not yet had the chance to thoroughly analyze
the research and the appropriate conclusions from said research. |
