Enforcing an Old Rule
Online casino gamblers in the US could find themselves in a very sticky
situation if they attempt to gamble from a Microgaming powered gambling site.
Microgaming is perhaps the number one software development company in the world
and it is now enforcing previous company policies that block gambling from
residents of US states that have specific legislation banning gambling at the
online casinos and poker sites. Microgaming announced the enforcement of this
new rule right after the Kentucky courts ruled that it would confiscate the
domain names of gambling sties that do not geoblock Kentucky residents.
The funny thing is though, Microgaming released the list of US states that are
geoblocked by their IPs and Kentucky is not on the list. This is a very
surprising fact given the current situation and the very real threat that is
facing online casinos that do not block Kentucky residents by the 3rd of
December. Who knows why Kentucky is not on the list, but Microgaming did send
out communications to the company’s affiliates advising that several states have
been blocked and that they should adjust their marketing efforts thusly.
The list of banned states include: District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana,
Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, South
Dakota, Washington State, and Wisconsin. The geo blocking technology works via
IP addresses and the Microgaming technology is smart enough to detect those
gamblers trying to hide their actual IP addresses. As for accessing the online
casino, poker, and sportsbetting sites, Microgaming advised that while players
from these states may still register new accounts and bet through the sportsbook
offerings, the poker sites and casinos are closed to them. |
