Questioning the Loopholes
There is fast becoming no shortage of online casino-type sites that are
specially constructed to circumvent the controversial US laws. The UIGEA is a
flawed piece of US legislation that has been met with objections since day one.
The law effectively bans US banks and financial services companies from
accepting transactions between foreign online casinos and US customers. There is
a fine line though of when the internet gambling companies are going to far –
and the US Department of Justice certainly watching all of the new sites
entering into the market with a close eye.
The fact of the matter is though – there is just little substitution for actual
online casinos. Gamblers in the US are using these alternative sites to some
extent, but the real money is still within the internet gambling industry.
Lately, since the US economy began to crash, the new alternative sites have
experienced problems staying profitable…this has led to many sites unfortunately
closing their doors after less than a year in operation.
The gamblers who are really looking for online casino style gambling are rarely
going to suffice themselves with subscription based sites. Rather, these
gamblers will more than likely find the dozen or so online casinos that are
still accepting US players despite the restrictions. LottoIP just announced a
new effort that will have the company launching a site that is affiliated with
the US lottery market but yet accessible via the internet. The idea is certainly
viable but there is much speculation that the US economy is just not in a
position to support yet another gambling and gaming site. |
