Likely New Developments
The land and online casino gambling industry seem united in their beliefs that
the democratic control over the government in the coming four years could be a
very good move for the internet poker gambling industry in particular. The
democratic platform is largely more accepting of the gambling industry and thus
there is more of a chance that online poker could see some carve-outs in place
along the lines of what was seen for fantasy sports leagues, horserace betting
and some other areas. The results of the November 4th election really cannot be
overstated – good things may be in the works for the online casinos and internet
poker sites.
A prominent representative from the land gambling industry, Gary Loveman (the
CEO and Chairman of Harrah’s) publicly commented to the Las Vegas Review-Journal
that the new administration change might also mean the legalization of online
poker. Naturally, there is simply no way of knowing what president-elect Barack
Obama plans to do in regards to the UIGEA and the current ban on offshore online
casinos – that is up in the air until the new administration takes office and
releases some official statements as to their position on internet gambling…and
internet poker in particular.
Interestingly enough, Loveman’s view of a more liberal policy on the internet
specifically involves just the internet poker sector of the industry. The online
casino gambling has a much harder fight ahead of it and Loveman believes that
there will be no legalization of all internet gambling for some time to come.
This is actually in line with many other predictions of the industry from
industry analysts. |
