Hurry, Hurry!
It probably feels a bit like Chicken Little is running through the halls of the
White House this month now that a Democrat has won the presidency. The
republicans are now looking at the legislation they have on the docket and are
looking to pass of much of it is possible if it is unlikely that president-elect
Barack Obama would pass the legislation when he takes office. Some of this
legislation directly involves the online casino gambling industry and there is
good reason that the democrats and US citizens are worried, honestly.
There is a push right now to push through last-minute regulations, and some of
the legislation that may pass could have some very negative long-term effects on
the internet and e-commerce – well beyond just the scope of whether or not the
government will pass through regulations that further block offshore online
casinos.
The issue of Net Neutrality is becoming a huge talking point and cause for
concern if you ask some in the industry. According to a Republican industry
insider, US Treasury officials are now trying to quietly push “through new rules
that potentially will have devastating consequences for privacy and e-commerce.”
This means that not only will the online casino gambling industry feel the hit
of the new planned regulations, but all Americans would be affected.
Dick Armey is a Republican economist for the FreedomWorks advocacy group and his
recent article on the subject indicates that there is good reason to be alarmed
– the current moves by the US Treasury officials could have a chilling effect on
the online environment – silencing the potential of the internet and instead
turning it into something akin to the US postal service, he opines. His article
is a compelling reason why Americans should closely watch their government and
be ready to protest when the government oversteps its boundaries. |
