Legalizing Online Casinos Easier with Dems
It has to be said that the US has no “easy road” to the legalization of internet
poker and online casino gambling – no matter which candidate was elected into
office last week, there was going to be a long struggle ahead. Fortunately
though, the long struggle is perhaps a bit shorter with the democrats now firmly
in office and having control over most of the government at this point. The
democratic platform on the whole is a bit more lenient toward the offshore
online casinos and internet poker gambling – but on the same token, there is
still likely to be immense protest and objections from the republicans if Obama
attempts to repeal or neutralize the UIGEA.
The UIGEA is highly controversial and extremely flawed by most standards – the
act is designed to block offshore online casinos from accessing the market, but
likely as not the act would instead put undue strain on the US financial system.
Right now there is controversy over whether the Bush Administration plans to
push the UIGEA regulations through before Obama gets into office – if this
occurs it means an even harder road ahead for the online casinos and internet
gambling companies targeted by the US government’s policy.
But if the regulations do not pass through before Obama takes office, most in
the online casino gambling industry agree that there is a much easier road
ahead. Although legalizing all forms of internet gambling will take time – as
will the repeal of the UIGEA, many consider online poker as a natural first step
for the new government in rectifying some of the problems with the current US
internet gambling laws. |
