No Worry for Frank Supporters
Congressman Barney Frank is perhaps the most outspoken and public proponent of
online casinos gambling in the United States right now. Frank is actively
working to neutralize the negative effects of the Unlawful Internet Gambling
Enforcement Act (UIGEA) through new legislation. In the mean time, Frank is
pushing for a simpler piece of legislation to pass through – HR 5767 which would
put a moratorium on the online casinos gambling act’s regulation development and
implementation. And while many in the internet gambling industry feel that Frank
has made extensive progress toward legalizing, licensing, and regulating the
online casino gambling industry, Senator Kyl (the force behind the UIGEA))
commented that he is unconcerned at this point about the Congressman’s progress.
Senator Kyl, which some media outlets are dubbing as the “Impatient Politician,”
was recently quoted in the Las Vegas Review Journal for comments concerning the
length of time that has passed since the U.S. government was tasked with
designing regulations to support the online casinos gambling ban. Because of
ambiguities in the UGIEA, the regulations are nearly impossible to draft, and
the banking and financial sectors claim that there is no way that the proposed
regulations could be implemented without serious problems within the industry.
And even though the banking industry and other online casinos gambling industry
professionals attested at the Congressional hearing that the UIGEA is flawed,
Senator Kyl is apparently living in some sort of delusional world where the
UIGEA is a sound piece of internet gambling legislation.
At this point the UIGEA opponents in the United States are overwhelming – and
surprisingly the opponents are not just online casinos gamblers looking to
gamble from home, but rather politicians and advocacy groups that recognize that
the UIGEA is flawed. Kyl though stands firm in his belief that Frank does not
have enough support in the House to really effect change at this point.
