Securing International Online Casinos Industry
The internet gambling industry can be a dangerous place for those gamblers
located in jurisdictions that have lax or sometimes no regulations in place
concerning online casinos gambling. The UK and Europe have some of the tightest
regulations in place – legislation designed to protect problem and underage
gamblers from exploitation. A new effort though by player protection and
advocacy groups will create a minimum set of standards that the worldwide online
casinos gambling industry will operate under.
There are several organizations that announced the plan to create the
International Responsible Gambling Code of Conduct for the online casinos
gambling industry. Heading up the effort are eCOGRA, GamCare, the Remote
Gambling Association (RGA) – these organizations are currently very active in
supporting responsible gambling practices in Europe and surrounding areas. Other
groups actively supporting the new Code of Conduct for the online casinos
gambling industry include the Interactive Gaming Council and the European Gaming
and Betting Association (EBGA).
These half a dozen or so organizations announced the initial plans late last
year at the European Interactive Gaming Expo and the online casinos gambling
related organizations are now actively beginning to actually draft the new code.
The Managing Director at GamCare, Andrew Poole outlined really what the groups
hope to accomplish for the internet gambling industry. Interestingly, the new
Code of Conduct will not just affect the online casinos themselves, but players
themselves will be empowered to “make informed decisions with regards to their
remote gambling participation,” remarks Poole. They can choose a site “secure in
the knowledge that operators are required by condition of license to protect the
welfare and enjoyment of their customers,” continued Poole. |
