It Will Be a Safe Market
With the plans to open the South African online casinos gambling market comes
the concerns that industry will bring with it a slew of social ills and other
problems. But according to Members of Parliament and the South African Trade and
Industry Minister, Mandisi Mpahlwa, the South African market will be strictly
regulated to insure that these foreign online casinos gambling and betting
companies use the utmost care in preventing an increase in problem and underage
gambling. In fact, considering the number of foreign online casinos gambling
companies already illegally operating within the South African market, the new
legislation will actually provide more protection for citizens than is currently
in place.
The fact of the matter is, attempting to ban online casinos gambling is largely
ineffective, especially in regions where the pastime has already taken root as a
habitual activity. The United States is currently discovering all of the
problems related to banning an activity on such an invasive and uncontrollable
medium such as the Internet. To that end, Mpahlwa spoke in favor of the National
Gambling Amendment Bill because it would give the government the power to
protect minors and problems gamblers from exploitation at the online casinos.
The current gambling site operate in a grey area where online casinos gamblers
have no recourse for action if they are cheated out of their money and the
government has no way to force minimum age verification requirements on the
offshore gambling companies.
The Bill that is currently making its way though the South African government
will mean very strict verification procedures in place at all of the licensed
online casinos as well as other stringent regulations put in place to protect
South Africans from the dangers of an unregulated gambling industry.
