But at the same time, where there is money there is crime, and a new study out of the FBI’s National White Collar Crime Center, online fraudulent activity is on the rise.

The new report of statistics shows that individuals are losing large sums of money to online scams and fraud - $240 million was lost in 2007 according to the FBI. Fraudsters will use the online casinos, credit card numbers, identity theft, and auction fraud to cheat others out of money. And according to the 2007 figures, online auction fraud is what individuals should watch out for – paying for a good or service that is later not received was the top reported for of Internet crime in 2007.
