A recent large-scale study (8,000 respondents) in the UK found that nearly nine percent of the adults surveyed participate in at least one form of remote online casinos gambling activity. The study, presented by ICM Research as an independent research study into the current UK gambling market by the UK Gambling Commission announced results that were largely in line with most of the industry’s predictions. Between the new forms of online casinos gambling – namely mobile gambling, and the expansion of gambling in the country because of regulations implemented in September 2007, most in the industry expected that the number would come in under 10 percent of the population.

Specifically, the study results concluded that 8.8 percent of the adults participating in the survey indicated that they had gambled in the past month through remote online casino gambling companies. This number includes all of the forms of remote gambling considered: the national lotteries, internet poker, sports and horserace betting, and online casinos gambling.

Additionally, the UK figures concerning the demographics of the nation’s online casinos gamblers was right in line with international figures. The remote internet gamblers are primarily males in the 18-34 age group. This is really a standard finding across multiple online gambling markets, although the research indicates that women internet gamblers are slowly increasing – just not at the rate that the males are gambling.

Next on the docket for the UK Gambling Commission is the planned 2010 research study that will take a broader and more inclusive look at the country’s land and online casinos gambling industry, specifically looking to find the levels of problem gambling in the country.
