Waiting on Online Casinos Charges
United States policy concerning online casinos gambling is still in the middle
of a national debate and many members of Congress have expressed serious concern
about the current U.S. policy. And at the same time as this ongoing debate and
questioning, there are individuals affected by the U.S. Unlawful Internet
Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) waiting on house arrest and in jail for trials.
Gary Kaplan remains to this day in jail for a list of charges, many of which
concern Kaplan’s involvement in U.S. online casinos gambling. Kaplan founded the
BetonSports plc company which accepted internet gambling wagers and similar
activities from U.S. players both prior to, and after the implementation of the
UGIEA.
Kaplan is one of the most prominent individuals affected by the U.S. online
casinos gambling policy. Although other members of the BetonSports await trail
for the gambling, money laundering, similar charges, Kaplan is held in jail
without bail because he is considered a serious flight risk. The former CEO of
the online casinos betting company, David Carruthers, is currently on house
arrest. The government has other individuals also awaiting a trial on the
federal charges from other online gambling related companies.
A new update on Kaplan comes in the form of yet another request for bail, and
once again the federal judge in the case ruled that Kaplan was a flight risk.
Judge Jackson commented on the bail request, "There is no condition or
combination of conditions of release that would reasonably assure the
defendant's appearance." And as for the online casinos gambling and other
charges that Kaplan faces, the federal authorities may very well heed the advice
of the Judge Jackson, and his recommendation that the authorities drop the
charges related to tax evasion ad obstruction.
