No Online Casinos Gambling in Thailand
Internet gambling in Asia is still a sticky situation despite the fact that the
many Asian governments are beginning to soften legislation that currently
outright bans all forms of internet based gambling. The online casinos gambling
industry has long asserted that the Asian-Pacific region is the primed for an
explosion into the internet gambling industries. But that expansion doesn’t seem
to include Thailand – at least not yet. The Thai Department of Special
Investigations (DSI) announced that the country was aiming to completely
eradicate any online casinos gambling Web sites operating for Thai citizens.
The fact is, betting is growing in popularity all across Thailand despite the
country’s restrictions on online casinos gambling and betting and the Thai
government is ready to reign in the activity. Also of concern for the government
and the DSI is the fact that Thai teenagers account for a lot of the betting
activities. Preliminary investigation into online casinos gambling in the
country have shown that teenagers are increasingly opening accounts at betting
sites as a way to gamble on popular soccer matches.
There is no real indication that traditional online casinos gambling is a
problem at this point, but the fact that the gambling Web sites are targeting
underage gamblers is alarming.
The permanent secretary for the Ministry of Justice, Jarun Pakdithanakul, has
noted that the DSI will begin investigations into the online casinos gambling
and betting sites and at that point those violating Thai law will face
prosecution. |
