Companies Show Online Casinos Support

Many companies and organizations all over the U.S. shelled out financial support toward efforts to legalize and regulate the online casinos gambling issue. The issues surrounding internet gambling are highly polarizing and there are some surprising organizations that have made the list this year of companies that spent money lobbying for regulation and licensing in the internet gambling industry. And while some organizations would probably not disclose exact amounts given toward online casinos lobbying, U.S. legislation requires that the lobbying firms disclose the specifics on how much the companies are spending and for what purpose.

Several lobby firms have already released the names and amounts, but as more and more file the details of lobbying budgets last year, a few surprising names made the list in support of Barney Franks proposal that would see licensing and regulation within the online casinos gambling industry. And though there were a couple of new companies and organizations contributing money to lobby in support of internet gambling, as a whole less was spent on internet gambling support lobbying than in previous years. That’s surprising in light of the online casinos gambling ban that passed in late 2006.

Some of the names released in support of online gambling were little surprise, several of the internet gambling companies that had previously maintained a large share of the U.S. market lobby for licensing and regulation, those include: IGT, Sportingbet, and Party Gaming. And land gambling companies are interested in the prospects of a legal U.S. internet gambling industry, Harrah’s spent $280,000 in lobbying funds. Others on the list include trade organizations and internet technology companies.
