German Online Casino Betting Issues
Germany is one of the ten EU member states violating EU policy by operating
internet gambling monopolies that exclude other EU member states access to local
gambling markets. Bwin, an Austrian online casinos gambling company has
continued to openly fight the German government’s ban on foreign internet
betting sites – but a ruling by the German Federal Court of Justice continues to
place Bwin in the wrong rather than finding the current monopolistic online
casinos legislation in the wrong. And although Bwin could face paying fines to
German companies adversely affected by Bwin’s online betting operations in
Germany, the company has the European Commission backing its interests.
Bwin a leading online casinos betting company in the European market with the
company also focusing on emerging markets in South America and Asia. But beyond
just the problems in Germany, Bwin is facing similar persecution in Argentina
for allegedly advertising in Buenos Aires without the appropriate permission
from licensing authorities in the region. Current issues with Bwin are hurting
the company’s financial viability between the Buenos Aires problem and the
recent ruling in favor of WesLotto. Basically, WesLotto can start enforcement
proceedings against Bwin despite the fact that the Federal Court of Justice may
take as long as 18 to come to a final decision in the case.
The company’s shares dropped almost eight percent after the Federal Court of
Justice announced its latest ruling. But even though Weslotto can begin
enforcement proceedings, a lot can happen in the European online casinos
gambling industry in that amount of time. The European Commission is beginning
to bring EU member states with internet gambling monopolies before the European
Court of Justice. So there may be significant changes in German gambling policy
in the coming months and years that will positively affect Bwin Entertainment. |
