Beware of Emails!
Internet users as a whole should heed warnings now that phishing scams are
popping up all over the world and in every sector of industries that use
e-commerce transactions. The Neteller online casinos payment processor has
confirmed that a scamming company is sending Neteller account holders false
emails requesting account information – this is a phishing scam and the links
and information in the email is not valid. This is not the first time that the
online casinos gambling industry has been the target of phishing scams, in fact
many players reported phishing problems at some smaller online gambling sites
just last month.
Neteller has confirmed that the online casinos players and account holders who
use the site should not acknowledge emails from the company that request holders
to follow a link in the email that then prompts account holders to input
personal and account information. At this point the phishers have enough
information to steal an account holders identity and drain any funds from the
account.
Phishing is an international problem at this point because it goes beyond the
online casinos gambling industry –phishers devise scams for everything from
banking information to MySpace passwords. But the internet gambling industry is
a large target right now because players often have large quantities of money in
their accounts ready to be gambled away.
Neteller has no way to stop the emails at this point but is focusing on
informing account holders and online casinos players of the phishing scam and
encouraging players to ignore any emails that mention a new IP tracking system
at Neteller. The company has been quick to respond to player complaints –
perhaps learning something from previous communication debacles surrounding the
company when Neteller froze U.S. accounts last year. |
