Licensing Online Gambling
Though online casino gambling is not currently a very popular in Nevada, (the
state is a number one land gambling destination) legislators are looking into
passing new regulations and laws that would license the industry in Nevada. A
recent UCLV study indicates that internet gambling is happening across the
state, and though it is still small- scale, the Nevadan government could be
benefiting from the online casinos gambling activities of its residents if it
chooses to license the industry and that would in turn make the pastime safer
for online gamblers.
Though the study concluded that only 1 out of 10 of the respondents gamble
online, and the other 9 out of 10 would not participate in online casino and
gambling activities even if it were licensed in Nevada, there is a market for
internet gambling. And the current online gamblers would feel more secure
gambling online if it were regulated.
And beyond the interest of the Nevadan gamers, online casino and internet
technology companies are interested in using Nevada as an emerging market for
new internet sportsbetting gambling. Those companies are specifically interested
in Nevadan gamblers and would focus the internet casinos sites at Nevada
residents.
The Control Board Chairman in Nevada, Dennis Neilander commented that if online
casinos and internet gambling is something that is going on, isn't this
something we ought to regulate and tax? For that reason, the board requested
the research study by UCLV. He remarks We felt you really can't make decisions
without appropriate research. |
