Irish Land Championships
From the land-tournaments to the online casinos, professional players attended
the Irish Poker Championship hosted by Party Poker. The poker industry is a
small one, where a core group of the professional players take most of the wins,
but for a lucky (and skilled) local Irish player, he was able to take on land
and online casinos professionals and win the tournament.
The Championship’s winner, Jude Ainsworth, is gaining a reputation in the poker
world for his skilled play, but that isn’t to say that anyone would have bet on
Ainsworth against competitors like Mike Sexton, Michael McCool, Ciaran O’Leary,
among others. Ainsworth traveled the ten short miles from his home outside of
the city to attend the Galway Championship. The expansion of poker into the
online casinos arena means that even players in remote areas are able to
practice and hone their skills. The practice is what proves key when these
relatively unknown players show up at international tournaments and end up
taking home the top prizes.
Ainsworth was probably just as surprised as the rest of the land and online
casinos poker industry by his win. He commented, "It doesn't get much better
than this. To say that we are going to sink a few pints is an understatement! I
couldn't ask for much more than this.
Ainsworth plans to use the money to take a holiday with his wife and child, and
naturally as buy-in money for future tournaments. Right now he has his sights
set on one of the biggest land-based tournaments (no mention of an interest in
any of the online casinos poker tourneys) the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas
this coming summer.
