Lottery Expands to Every Corner
Massachusetts Governor Patrick Deval is not just looking to target the land and
online casinos industry. His plans include the state lottery system too. Within
the coming months Massachusetts lottery players will find gambling opportunities
everywhere they go – something not everyone is happy about. The state is
allowing the lottery to expand into unprecedented venues – coffee and doughnut
shops, and even drug stores and more.
Representatives for the state lottery are naturally comfortable and positive
about the shift in venues able to sell lottery tickets. Dan Rosenfeld spoke for
the state lottery and commented, “These are very successful businesses and we
would like to partner with them. The more agents we have, the more [tickets] we
can sell.” And if you’re the state lottery, selling more tickets is a great
thing. But what about the online casinos poker players? From their viewpoint,
the shift in Massachusetts to support the state lottery and land casinos is
hypocritical, and some just don’t want to see lottery tickets on every corner.
A recent comment from Network World did not speak favorably on the shift in
Massachusetts, and on Governor Patrick’s agenda to target online casinos poker.
Governor Patrick is "....rattling cell keys at the online poker crowd,” Network
World remarks, and at the same time, “the Massachusetts State Lottery Commission
– our officially blessed, multibillion gambling behemoth – is taking yet
additional steps to ensure that residents here cannot step outside of their
homes without tripping over a game of chance.” Governor Patrick’s questionable
legislation is highly targeted by the criticism and it is still up in the air
whether or not the legislation will pass and the lottery will continue to
expand.
