Bodog Seeks UK Approval
Bodog has announced that it has applied for a UK gambling license in order to
expand online casinos gambling, betting, and poker services offered to the UK
market. Right now Bodog has an extremely large U.S. player base and is looking
to expand into more European markets – the company sees licensing in the UK as
one step on the path to continued growth in the online casinos industry. But
there could be some obstacles that Bodog must first face before licensing
approval from the UK government, particularly concerning Bodog’s continued
presence in the United State’s internet gambling industry despite U.S.
legislation in place to limit the ability of players to gamble at foreign
gambling operators.
Specifically, the CEO at Bodog, Calvin Ayre, has faced accusations from a UK
newspaper that commented in an interview with Ayre that Bodog was engaged in
criminal activity considering the U.S. has an online casinos ban in place and
the company has yet to withdraw from the industry. Ayre is well known in the
internet gambling industry for his quick tongue though and steadfast defiance of
the U.S. Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act. He noted that Bodog was in
fact operating perfectly within the rights of the company’s Antiguan online
casinos gambling license.
Whether or not the UK Gambling Commission agrees with Bodog is another question
though. The UK Gambling Commission has some of the toughest standards in the
global online casinos gambling industry, so why is Bodog seeking a license from
the UK Commission. Well, with UK licensing Bodog will be able to full utilize
new advertising regulations in the country. The company’s current gambling
license through Antigua does not allow the company to advertise in the UK
because Antigua has not yet been approved for the UK White List. |
