Betfair Requests Players Return Money
It might just be asking too much of online casinos gamblers who purposefully
exploit a glitch in the Betfair poker rooms to then return the unfairly won
funds. But even if it’s an impracticable request, that’s directly the first
steps Betfair is taking to recover the more than GBP 100,000 in funds that were
won by players who found a glitch in the company’s software and then maximized
their winnings until the glitch was fixed. Alleging that the funds were unfairly
and illegally won, Betfair is asking the 20-odd online casinos players to kindly
return what isn’t theirs.
Now that all sounds a bit nice, but in fact, Betfair is serious about the issue
that occurred just a few days past and has even gone so far as to accuse the
online casinos players of “collusion: and then according to the Telegraph the
company “[ordered] them to repay the money this week or face legal action.”
Betfair has not specified how the glitch happened or really any hardcore details
on exactly how much was unfairly won at the online casinos poker rooms and how
long the glitch was open for exploitation.
Betfair has begun to initially contact all of the online casinos players
involved in the glitch to request that the players simply return the funds asap
and the situation will be dropped. Betfair sees the actions of these 20 or so
players as directly choosing to exploit glitch for enormous personal benefit. An
email to one of the players commented that the games the gamblers were playing
that night "were incorrectly set up to pay everyone involved in certain all-in
situations and this was exploited by you and others to generate substantial
returns in a short space of time. As I'm sure you can understand, the winnings
received as a result of this exploitation must be returned."
Whether or not the online gamblers choose to just hand over the winnings remains
to be seen though we’re willing to bet that there will be a few problems getting
the more than GBP 100,000 back into Betfair’s hands.
