Political Position on Online Casinos: Huckabee
Voters across the United States are asked some weighty questions and are forced
to look at the pros and cons for each presidential candidate for nomination –
the President after all shapes U.S. policy for the next four to eight years.
With several of the state primaries and caucuses completed, some online casinos
and poker players in states that have not yet voted are torn about which
candidate will best support neutralizing the current internet gambling ban. One
big issue for internet gamblers this year is whether the incoming presidential
nominee supports regulating the online casinos industry rather than the current
ban. With three Republican choices, the some voters may have a tough choice
figuring out which Republican best supports the internet gambling industry.
Mike Huckabee is the long-shot for the presidency according to many political
analysts, but at the same time this former Arkansas governor has managed to find
large amount of support in the southern states. And though Huckabee is certainly
personable and could certainly bring some needed changes to the U.S., he may not
be the best choice for online casinos gamblers looking to reverse the UIGEA.
Of the three Republican candidates it seems that Huckabee is the most willing to
flat out speak against the online casinos gambling industry. Part of his blatant
anti-gambling attitude could come from the is political platform which is based
around much more evangelical values. And though he specifically commented that
he would veto legislation to legalize and regulate online casinos gambling, the
Poker Players Alliance also noted that politicians are not known for keeping a
firm position on controversial topics as the tide of public opinion shifts in a
certain direction. Evidence for this is all of the “flip-flopping” allegations
during Kerry’s run for the presidency.
The PPA is of the stance that though Huckabee is against legalizing online
casinos, in the end he could be shifted into supporting the internet poker
industry.
