Illegal Online Casinos in Israel
Israeli gamblers and bettors will have to find a new way to bet on sports games
after the arrest of a handful of Israelis operating an online casinos gambling
site. Operating the betting and gambling Web sites is a serious crime in Israel,
and the police reported to the Jerusalem Post that the bust included dozens of
individuals allegedly involved with operating and facilitating the online casino
betting Web site aimed at Israeli bettors.
The large gambling bust was a joint effort between several areas of law
enforcement and the International and Serious Crimes Unit detectives. Two
branches of the Israeli police department also participated in busting the Web
online casinos betting group that reportedly took in millions of shekels
annually that was then laundered and funneled into other illegal activities.
The details that police released to the Jerusalem Post indicate that seven
people were arrested and 18 others are currently detained for questioning. The
betting ring specifically allowed online casinos bettors to place bets through
the site, and then pay in person those running the site. Because the Web site
did not accept bets via credit cards or other traceable methods the 24 hour Web
betting site, Play2Bet, was able to go undetected for much longer than would
have been possible otherwise. Added to the lack of a credit trail, the Play2Bet
operators hosted the site out of servers located outside of Israel – the police
were not specific on where the site server was located and vaguely alluded to
somewhere in Europe.
Other allegations for those involved in the online casinos betting site concern
accepting black money and influencing the outcomes of the sports games that
gamblers bet on through the site. |
