Land Gambling Has Dangers
An online and land Australian poker player was certainly relieved to find out
that the Melbourne police have apprehended two men in connection with a mugging
that occurred just weeks ago. The Aussie, Jason Potter, was leaving the Crown
Casino after participating in a land poker tournament. On January 21, 2008
Potter was mugged from behind from several men armed with knives and various
weapons as he walked back to his hotel from the casino in the early morning
hours.
The Melbourne police first obtained search warrants for the two men suspected in
the mugging, and after completing the searches the men were arrested in charged
on various counts relating to the robbery. Dwayne Johnstone and Vhyharn
Arumughasamy are the only two who are arrested for the mugging though others
were involved. They are currently awaiting trial in the Melbourne courts and
according to the Magistrate will be held without bail to face a trial next month
(March).
The robbery occurred as Potter was leaving a land casino poker tournament in
which he placed 31st and subsequently was walking home with $31,000 in various
currencies having already cashed out his chips and winnings. No word on whether
Potter frequents both the land and online casinos, but he was participating in
the Aussie Millions Poker Championship occurring at the Crown Casino.
The attack was violent attach was entirely unprovoked and Potter was hit from
behind, then mugged for his winnings. This is certainly the often overlooked
underbelly of the land and online casinos gambling industry – the people willing
to do anything to walk away with prize money. |
