Ayre Contests Criminal Allegations
The United State’s decision to pass an online casinos gambling ban has certainly
caused a wave of unrest throughout the world. From the EU to Antigua, to Japan,
many countries take issue with the country’s Unlawful Internet Gambling
Enforcement Act. The UIGEA specifically prevents the majority of internet
gambling transactions from processing through U.S. financial institutions. So
now the entire situation raises a whole new question – even though the world
disagrees with the U.S. online casinos gambling ban, is it still criminal
activity for a gambling company to still service the U.S. market.
That question comes into play now that the Bodog Entertainment Group is applying
for a UK online casinos gambling license. Some are speculating that Bodog will
not pass the UK’s “fair and proper” standards for awarding and internet gambling
license. Bodog has continued to openly defy the U.S.’s controversial UIGEA by
offering online casinos poker to Americans.
Some in the media and the online casinos gambling industry are even going so far
as to call the company’s activity in the U.S. gambling industry criminal
activity. The well known CEO of Bodog, Calvin Ayre fiercely rejects those
accusations, claiming that Bodog has “licenses from sovereign governments to do
what we do - that's how it works on every other industry on the planet.”
The online casinos industry is still waiting to find out if the UK Gambling
Commission will approve Bodog for a license. Ayre notes though that even without
a UK license, the company will continue to have legal access to the UK market
through its Antiguan license. |
