Land and Online Casinos for Bulgaria
The internet gambling industry has exploded over the past decade and is now
being embraced by new countries all over the world because, well, simply put,
resistance is futile. The internet is an extremely pervasive medium, and that
goes for any industry that relies on the internet as well – namely online
casinos. Although some countries have placed bans on internet gambling as a way
to protect citizens, there is really no way to completely keep the pastime out
of a country, and an unregulated gambling industry paves the way for rampant
crime. That’s a main concern that was raised by the Bulgarian government and
others in the land gambling industry.
Bulgaria currently has a relatively small land gambling industry, and a
completely unregulated online casinos gambling industry. Current Bulgarian law
has no middle ground allowances at this time, and government officials from
different sectors of the government, the State Gambling Commission and the Chief
Directorate for Combating Organised Crime (CDCOC), are looking for new
legislation that would bring in more tourism gambling while allowing the
government to regulate and license the online and text gaming industries.
And though Bulgaria is planning on expanding gambling opportunities in the
country –in both land and online casinos gambling, Atanas Kunchev, the Bulgarian
Deputy Finance Minister duly noted the country does not currently have the
systems in place to effectively monitor and assist this industry. Kunchev also
remarket on his point of view in the discussions. He notes, “Gambling tourism is
a resource Bulgaria has not exploited. A national gambling development programme
needs to be drawn up as part of the tourism industry.”
There is significant monies to be made by expanding the online and tourism
gambling industries and the government is taking a slow and steady approach to
implementing new gambling related legislation. |
