One More Co-Sponsor
In light of all of the online casinos gambling debate occurring in Washington
over the past week, it makes perfect sense that Congressman Barney Franks
licensing and regulation bill would find one more voice will to support a move
to end the controversial Unlawful Internet Gambling Regulation and Enforcement
Act (UIGEA). Congressman Frank has announced that bill HR 2046, the Internet
Gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act (IGREA) now has 48 co-sponsors – one
more than before the hectic week of extensive debate on the UIGEA. The 48th
co-sponsor is Congressman Jerrold Nadler of the 8th District of New York.
Congressman Nadler is a much respected member of the House of Representatives
and is serving his 9th term in Congress. This is the first time that Congressman
Nadler has openly taken a side in the online casinos gambling debate – standing
up for regulation and licensing in industry. Nadler serves on numerous
Congressional committees and subcommittees including: House Judiciary Committee
(with Congressman Frank), the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, the
influential Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties Subcommittee, and
the Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security Subcommittee.
Congressman Nadler’s Web site highlighted just a bit of the reason that Nadler
chose to support the online casinos gambling regulation and licensing proposal.
His site notes that “there is nothing more fundamental to being an American than
the assurance against unwarranted government interference in one's personal
affairs." Many consider the UIGEA to greatly impose governmental interference on
what an American online gambler does from the privacy of their own home.
Nadler’s support and influence in congress with undoubtedly help Frank in
gaining more support for IGREA in the coming months as the debates on the UIGEA
continue. |
