Missing the Online Casinos Point: 1
Concern is growing in the online casinos gambling industry – but mainly for the
internet gambling opponents. Opponents to internet gambling largely tout all of
the benefits of the 2006 Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA)
while missing the point that the UIGEA has no benefits as the Acts main
intention cannot be achieved. The U.S. Department of Treasury and other
governmental agencies and representatives from the financial sectors gave
evidence and testimony last week that the UIGEA is unenforceable as the proposed
online gambling regulations currently stand.
But all of that fact and testimony have completely escaped individuals at the
Free Congress Research and Education Foundation. A representative from the
Foundation, Paul M. Weyrich, published an article in a Washington, DC
publication covering the benefits of the UIGEA and why online casinos gambling
should continued to be banned in the U.S. at the financial level.
Weyrich presented a largely one-sided account about the UIGEA and its intention
for the online casinos gambling industry. And beyond just the intention of the
UIGEA, Weyrich missed the strong limitations that will keep the UIGEA from ever
being successful. Weyrich was quick to comment that online casino gambling has
had vastly negative effects on the U.S. population, yet he opted not to quote
the actual statistics on the issue which are readily available. And the argument
that online casinos gambling fosters a fertile ground for internet gambling
addiction and underage gambling is a bit hypocritical considering Weyrich fails
to even mention the U.S. extensive and lucrative U.S. land gambling industry. |
