Everyone Loves Gambling
Even Hollywood has bought into the increasing fascination with land and online
casinos gambling with the last week’s release of “21.” There is really little
that appeals to the mass public more than a handful of intrigue and large
quantities of money coupled with a land gambling coup. “21” features a group of
graduate students at MIT who go to Las Vegas and manage to manipulate the cards
– and walk away with hundreds of thousands in winnings.
Land and online casinos gambling is a perfect target for Hollywood because of
the inherent fascination – everyone dreams of striking it rich. The Head of
Distribution at Sony, Rory Bruer, commented on the cross-appeal for the movie
and why it is so successful at the American box offices. Bruer notes, "One of
the coolest things is it really did play to everyone. It got male, female,
young, old," Rory Bruer, Sony's head of distribution, told CNBC. Typically it
would seem that the film would appeal to the younger 18-34 crowd because of the
film’s youthful cast, but in actuality it worked across all demographics
according to the movie’s opening weekend’s performance.
And as for what the public found so intriguing about the land and online casinos
gambling movie – perhaps that the MIT students manage to count cards at the site
and cheat the casinos out of money. Gamblers and movie-goers have a fascination
with this idea of getting money back from the big casinos – just look at the
appeal of Ocean’s 11 – not only was the movie a success, but it was a success
both times it was made and even spawned a successful franchise. |
