Long Delay for Kentucky Land Casinos
The horseracing industry all over the world is frequently in the news for claims
that land and online casinos gambling and betting are causing problems for many
of the horseracing tracks. U.S. racetracks are constantly looking for the
ability to offer either slot machines for other smaller attached gambling
choices as a way to not only lure players to the track, but to feed into purses
and to generally support the immense amount of money needed to offer high
quality horses racing for competitive and significant purses.
The horseracing industry in Canada has recently filed serious allegations
against the country’s online casinos gambling industry, alleging that
unregulated internet gambling and betting is causing the racetracks to go out of
business – which means that the Canadian government is now investigating the
country’s online gambling industry.
In the United States, the Kentucky legislature has chosen not to pass a law that
would expand the land casinos gambling industry in the state to include casino
gambling at the racetracks. Kentucky racetracks face competition for business
from land casino gambling and betting in neighboring states – in addition to an
underground online gambling industry that the U.S. government has had little
success in effectively banning the activity.
And the decision to not pass the casino law during this legislative session
means that the horseracing industry may have to wait until 2009 or 2010 to be
brought before the Kentucky House of Representatives for consideration. The
proposed expansion will need to go before the house because it will require
changes to the current State Constitution. |
