A Dutch Online Casinos Decision
The European Commission has spent several years attempting to eliminate online
casinos gambling monopolies from the EU, and the ruling to reject Holland
Casinos request for exclusive access to the Dutch gambling market was a step
both in the right direction and the wrong. There were some concerns that the
Dutch Senate would grant the request, which would then cause increased action
from the Commission. But as it stands, the Holland online casinos gambling site
still has an essentially exclusive corner on the Dutch internet gambling
industry.
Right now many countries are in a transition period when it comes to online
casinos gambling legislation. The Netherlands is facing investigation from the
European Commission for operating an internet gambling monopoly – Holland Casino
in is the only online gaming company that can officially offer internet gambling
services to Dutch players. But now at least the Dutch Senate has taken a step in
the right direction for denying the casino’s request for three-years of
exclusivity in the country.
The Netherlands is one of the ten EU member-states that violates EU policy with
monopolistic online casinos gambling policies – now though the Commission’s
warnings to alter the policy on internet gambling seem to be taking effect. The
Commission has threatened to send those countries in non-compliance with
free-trade policies up before the European Court of Justice as a next step
instead of continuing stalled negotiations and open defiance.
As for specifics, the Dutch Senate voted 35 -37 to veto Holland Casino’s request
for exclusivity.
