Economy Affects Gambling Compensations: 2

The argument over whether than land and online casinos gambling industries should consider reducing the amount of comps for gamblers visiting the venues can really go either way at this point. There are pros and cons for each side and they all though really center on the fact that the U.S. economy is negatively effect land gambling revenue at the major gambling epicenters and the casinos are looking for ways to reduce costs – reducing the number comps given or at least limiting comps to up-market land and online casinos gamblers could save the companies millions each year, but they could also drive some gamblers to other gambling options which would then have the reverse effect.

Some of the land casinos argue that not only are the comps a differentiating feature from online casinos gambling, but that the comps will continue to entice the upper level of gamblers to travel to the land facilities in Las Vegas and Atlantic City. The argument contends that without these incentives why would the high-rollers travel far to get to a resort when a local slots parlor is most likely a hop, skip, and a jump away.

The other side of the debate though is to keep some of the comps as a way to entice the land casino’s ideal customers, which are those with a lot of money in the bank to spend at the table games and continue to boost the land gambling image of catering to the high-rollers. Also, reducing comps would relieve some of the financial pressures over the coming months if the economy continues to slow.
