Busy Week for U.S. Internet Gambling
The United States has faced a busy past couple of weeks in the world of online
casinos gambling. Everything from UIGEA protestors voicing concerns, banking
institutions sending letters in mass to note the impracticality of the U.S.
internet gambling ban, to the crowning moment of the week, the Congressional
hearing that occurred this past Thursday and included extensive presentations
from specialists in multiple industries who highlighted the negative affects of
the U.S. online casinos gambling ban. Congressman Barney Frank has been at the
forefront of all of the heated debate to neutralize or repeal the UIGEA, and has
also had the opportunity to push his bill which proposes that the U.S. license
and regulate the industry.
The Congressional hearing was largely successful in educating Congress on the
issues facing the U.S. because of the UIGEA. There is, naturally, no clear
indication on what the outcome of the hearing will be, but most in the online
casinos gambling industry are certain that Congress will act on fixing this
problem quickly considering the negative impact it has had with maintaining
international relationships.
Those presenting at the Congressional hearing ranged greatly. Individuals from
the banking industry and financial sectors indicated that the current online
casinos gambling ban was simply unenforceable and that to even try could cause
some severe repercussions for the U.S. banking industry. Some player interest
groups weighed in on the topic, along with online casino gambling specialists
who believe that the U.S. could effectively license and regulate the industry. |
