Casino-Style Gambling Busted: 1
United States politicians are quick to point to online casinos gambling as the
scourge of the gambling industry, but an arrest of an alleged land poker
gambling ring out of South Carolina indicates that gamblers will do just about
anything to get their gambling fix. SC police investigators announced the 27
citizen arrests that culminated the end of a allegedly ten month investigation
into a group of land poker players who met regularly and apparently took the
poker game beyond the legal, friendly “poker night” and into an organized land
and online casino-like operation complete with employees and as many as five
locations identified as locations for the poker gambling games.
Initial reports indicate that the police confiscated upwards of US $40,000 in
the raid gambling in addition to the 27 arrests. This is a tough situation that
will certainly require that the investigators have some real evidence against
the couple and those involved in the poker gambling nights. The police and
investigators have only announced preliminary information on the case, but
already many are drawing parallels to the online casinos gambling debates –
poker gambling is rampant and only through specific regulation can law
enforcement actually monitor and control the activity.
Online casinos gambling is currently illegal in the United States, and the state
and federal governments are increasingly looking to protect regulations related
to land and internet gambling – hence the recent arrests of multiple gambling
rings. Just in the last couple of months the news has been full of announcements
of underground online casinos gambling and betting rings led by New York crime
families. |
