Yelling Louder for Online Casinos: 2
The PPA has not stopped at the Democratic National Convention however and has
also planned a similar charity poker event to coincide with the Republican
National Convention occurring this week. The PPA is one million members strong
and because the group has such a focused intent – legalizing poker gambling at
US online casinos – PPA events receive extensive support and turnout from the
PPA members. One of the purposes behind reaching the one-million member mark was
so that the group had an advantageous position when lobbying for the
legalization of online casino poker.
The PPA is a political action committee with one specific purpose in mind and
all of the events and efforts from the PPA center on one purpose – neutralizing
the controversial UIGEA which bans offshore online casinos and poker gambling
companies from processing financial transactions with US gamblers. The upcoming
presidential election is a key event for the PPA – neither candidate has
committed to legalizing online casino poker gambling but the PPA is still
putting forth efforts within both parties.
The Bush Administration is extremely anti-online casino gambling in any form
(part of the reason the UIGEA passed in the first place) and the PPA has high
hopes that even if the Republican candidate, John McCain is elected that he will
considering initiating legislation to neutralize the effects of the UGIEA. To
push the issue further, the PPA has linked legalizing poker gambling to saving
the planet with buttons that read “Reduce your carbon footprint. Play online
poker.” That coupled with the national coverage of the two charity poker
tourneys timed to coincide with the National Conventions has put the PPA and the
online casino poker gambling issue into the spotlight. |
