Yelling Louder for Online Casinos: 1
The Poker Players Alliance has apparently found a very lucrative format for a
poker tournament that serves two purposes – uniting the more than one million
members of the PPA while also informing politicians and the nation about the
internet gambling issue. According to the PPA and online casino poker gamblers,
only a small percentage of the US is against legalizing and regulating the
internet poker gambling industry – the only problem is that this small
percentage has “yelled louder” in the past, making their objections well known,
commented Andy Bloch, a respected poker professional.
Bloch made a very important observation, notably that until the PPA became a
powerful lobbying body there were few land and online casino gamblers willing to
voice their objection to the current US policies that block offshore gambling
companies from accessing the US market. The PPA used the upcoming presidential
elections as a prime opportunity to get their voices heard on the issue of poker
gambling at US online casinos.
Last week the PPA used the Democratic National Convention as a launching point
for discussion on the controversial offshore online casinos ban. The PPA
organized a charity poker tournament event in Denver timed to coincide with the
DNC and all of the political festivities. Importantly, this internet poker
gambling issue not only brought awareness to the issue for politicians, but the
national media outlets have picked up the news and have begun to cover the PPA’s
extensive efforts regarding legalizing and regulating online poker in the US
market. |
