Domains are a Vulnerable Target
The Kentucky government has announced a new plan that is to specifically target
the online casinos and internet gambling sites that illegally access US gamblers
– and Kentuckians more specifically. The US has specific legislation in place
that is intended to ban offshore online casinos from accessing any US gamblers
but because of the pervasive nature of the internet and the flaws within the
UIGEA, internet gambling companies continue to target the US market. The new
concern though for internet gambling operators though is the vulnerability of
their domain names. Online casinos have the ability to block gamblers from a
specific state or jurisdiction and that is precisely what the Kentucky
government has planned for the industry.
All online casino gambling operators who still target US gamblers and have a US
registered domain name could face legal action and the loss of their domain name
if it is within reach of the Kentucky government. The online caisno gambling
industry has taken a close look at the state’s current gambling laws and
although the government supports the legislative carve-outs that positively
affect the horseracing industry; the Kentucky government is seriously looking to
ban online gambling in the state.
Some of the reasons for the impending legal bans on online casino gambling in
the state have to do with the fact that the industry is increasingly dangerous
as the US government has no regulatory control over which sites are targeting
U.S. citizens. Another concern raised by the state concerns minors and problem
gamblers accessing the sites – the seizure of domain names of these online
gambling sites would give the state of Kentucky the power to affect change and
force compliance from the internet gambling sites. |
