Vetoing Power Again
The Advertising Standards Authority in the UK just announced that the PKR online
casino poker gambling group will have to stop a current television campaign that
unduly glamorizes the internet poker industry and gives players a false sense of
appropriate gambling habits. PKR is the leading poker gambling company in the UK
that offers online casino poker gamblers exclusive access to 3D poker games in a
competitive environment equivalent to some of the top poker gambling sites in
the world. PKR’s latest advertisement though did not make the cut in the UK
market and the ASA has vetoed all of the supplemental information and arguments
provided on behalf of the commercial advertisement.
The commercial advertisement in question uses a slew of poker terminology spoken
by a suave looking online casino poker player who nonchalantly waxes poetic on
the highs and lows of the internet poker gambling industry. The commercial
begins with a voiceover and the ASA notes that the voiceover speech glamorizes
the game – playing down the very real risks that are inherent in the game of
online casino poker gambling – making it look essentially “cool” to bet big and
loose big.
And while the ASA did acknowledge that the voiceover included references to
losing at the online casino poker tables the end decision rested on the fact
that the commercial advertisement in its entirety promoted unhealthy gambling
habits that the ASA is not looking to promote within the UK gambling industry.
PKR.com will have no choice but to comply with the edict and pull the
advertisement from continued use. |
