Online Casinos Outpacing Land Venues: 2
A major issue that Williams is quick to point to is the alleged research that
indicates that free-play online casinos have more favorable odds than the
real-money versions of the game as a way to falsely lure gamblers into a sense
of complacency. Williams asserts that the real-money versions of the casino
games have lower odds of winning and lower payout percentages. This fact is
hotly contested by the online casinos who assert that the payout percentages are
the same. Williams also asserts that underage gamblers use the free-play option
extensively until they are of age and then run into problems when they are able
to participate in real money online gambling.
Williams’ written report on the current state of the Canadian gambling industry
was developed in conjunction with the Ontario Problem Gambling Research Centre
according to Williams and will be fully released in coming months. In the
interim though Williams was more than willing to provide some statistics and
“facts” to the Edmonton Sun concerning Canadian online casino gambling. The
report has not even been released yet and already online gambling analysts are
contesting that the research numbers are exaggerated to support Williams’ point.
Another big bone of contention for Williams that was mentioned in the Edmonton
Sun article was the fact that the Kahnawake Gaming Commission is running
unchecked by the Canadian government and there is no indication that the
government plans to intervene on the Commission’s licensing process or violation
of online casino gambling regulations already in place in Canada. |
