Sacrifices for the Presidency

Barack Obama and Jon McCain are in the race of a lifetime in a presidential campaign that shows signs of being one of the closest campaigns in history. The US is extremely polarized about issues such as the economy, abortion, and others – and online casinos could prove a crucial issue for Obama’s campaign. Earlier this month the media latched on to the fact that Obama’s Vice Presidential pick, Joe Biden, has a son who acts as a lobbyist in Washington – but beyond just the issue of lobbying, Biden’s son has a client from the online casino gambling industry – that’s an issue that the Republicans are hoping to use against Obama.

The Obama campaign though, sensing a weakness in their campaign as a result of Biden’s son’s, Hunter Biden, involvement with lobbying for the online casino gambling industry, quickly announced that Hunter is no longer lobbying in Washington. Biden was a pretty squeaky-clean pick for Obama as VP and this is the first controversial item to come onto the table. Compared to the extremely negative publicity surrounding Sarah Palin, this pretty much pales in comparison.

But at the same time, the issue had to be addressed or the Republican campaign would use the connection to the online casino gambling industry as fuel for future fodder. According to the Obama campaign, not only is Hunter’s firm no longer representing nine clients that were controversial and could negatively affect the Obama-Biden bid for the White House, but Hunter gave up lobbying altogether says Obama representatives. Hunter made the changes in his lobbying activity apparently right after Obama chose Biden as his running-mate.
