Online Casinos a Risky Cause
The media has aggressively pursued the announcement that Joe Biden’s son
previously lobbied for the online casino gambling industry. The polarizing topic
of gambling at the online casinos is a central issue for both of the
presidential hopefuls and Biden’s link to the internet gambling industry hasn’t
helped the Obama-Biden ticket much. But it begs the question why – after all, is
gambling at the online gambling sites that big of a deal. Well, according to the
media and to the voting public, as well as industry analysts the online gambling
issue brings up questions of honesty and the lobbying aspect goes against
tenants of Obama’s campaign platform.
Both candidates are mandating change, but in a different light. The Democratic
platform specifically denounces the way that Washington currently operates – big
money businesses and individuals are able to shape policy with their support.
McCain on the other hand looks toward creating an honest government – same thing
as Obama but in a different way. The online casino gambling issue though is
polarizing because there is huge money in internet gambling and Biden’s son was
directly connected to one of the larger internet gambling companies in the world
– Party Gaming.
The fact of the matter is that online casino gambling is currently illegal in
the US, and no matter what Congressman Barney and a slew of lobbyists believe,
internet gambling is on the short list right now. Though this may not always be
the case neither presidential candidate is looking to add a pro-online gambling
spin to their platform; the presidential race is all about taking the widest
view on certain topics as a way to ensure that the candidate appeals to the most
number of voters. |
